ASG Reference Architecture

Research and development in the ASG project will result in a reference architecture that aims to bridge the gap between business-related requirements and current service-oriented IT-infrastructures. It effectively sets the ground for the ASG reference implementation that provides component implementations to validate concepts and technologies. The ASG architecture constitutes a framework that defines standardised interfaces, interactions, and data types. It is build of particular components assigned to, and thus developed by the respective work components. This modular concept of the architecture allows inherent flexibility to use only components that are required for a specific solution. In this sense, the platform serves as a middleware for service-oriented environments and solves integration issues for existing IT infrastructures. Furthermore, with the help of ontologies the platform can be adapted toward specific domains. The architecture intends to be open for a wide range of service types in order to constitute a true open service platform, where various service types can be integrated, composed, or executed. To achieve this aim, ASG will build on top of relevant, already available standards, which are crucial for industry adoption such as SOAP and WSDL, and WS-BPEL. The support of important emerging standards in relevant technologies such as service language standards like WSML, will be provided. Furthermore, ASG seeks to influence emerging standards in related fields of technology and to contribute to already ongoing standardisation efforts.
